This video comes across as very comical and over the top but it is conveying a very important message. Men and women alike have been socialized to fulfill certain gender roles and this is often translated into sexual encounters between men and women. In order to have positive experiences, verbal communication between partners is crucial however, more often than not it is neglected. Naturally we wouldn't go to the extremes of getting a lawyer and signing contracts but simply checking in with your partner is the only way to be sure that they are comfortable and consenting. As a society we rely too heavily on interpreting body language which can lead to feelings of mistrust, violation and even of being sexually assaulted. There is no way to directly translate body language since everyone shows that they are uncomfortable or resisting in different ways. Therefore, the only way to understand and interpret what your partner is feeling is by checking in. It might seem like a buzz kill at the time but it demonstrates to your partner that you care about the way they are feeling. If our society began to normalize verbal communication between partners the feelings of awkwardness and mood kills would slowly disappear. This isn't a result of verbal miscommunication between genders but rather the neglect of verbal communication altogether and the reliance on the interpretation of body language.
